Gokai Pink’s New Battle Style

I don’t know how many of you noticed this.  Recently Gokai Pink has been holding her Gokai Saber like this.

(Research shows this is called the icepick or reverse grip style)

In earlier episodes, she holds it like her fellow Gokaigers.

I noticed it most prominently during Episode 25.   I became curious as to when she first started holding it like this so I browsed through all the old episodes.  Surprise surprise, or was it coincidence?  It was in episode 17, the episode right after the 199 Heroes movie.  Could it be she learned to hold it like that in the movie?  Only 3 months to go before the DVD release to find out.

She even spins it around before fighting

Here are some more pics (I thank G.U.I.S. and Over-time for the subs)

My Kamen Rider Sagozo Photoshoot

I recently bought my very first, and I mean VERY first expensive action figure.  It was OCC #4 Kamen Rider OOO Sagozho Combo.  Before looking at the pics, I feel the need to explain some things.

I am really a fickle buyer.  I will never buy these kinds of toys because I only buy what I really need.  Sure I want a lot of things and I have the means to obtain them but I can pride myself in self control.  So what caused me to buy this?

I was in Bangkok with some friends.  It was already the last day and I had a lot of Baht leftover.  I figured I had to spend it before leaving.  So the I did what I finally would not do back home in the Philippines and decided to blow it all on a cool looking toy.  I really had no idea what I was buying.  I just scanned what I thought was the best looking and within my budget.  I finally decided on OOO since that was the only decent toy I really knew and was within my budget.  I was feeling so giddy.  I just handed over a ton of money but I felt happy.

So I opened it and played with it.  I was sorely disappointed to find out it was so much cheaper here in the Philippines. I also became curious about just how many kinds of toys there are and what the brand names are.  So after a little research, I was overwhelmed by how many there are and how good they look.  This toy just opened my eyes to the wonders of toy photography.

To be honest, I am now starting to crave all the other OCC combos.  There is that inescapable impulse to mix and match the head, torso and leg parts just because it allows you to.

I also bought a Geki Yellow Figure.  I had some more Baht to spare and I thought, what the hey, she is my favorite Female Senshi

Kamen Rider OOO

This is the very 1st kamen rider series I have watched in order.  I give my thanks to a youtube user who will remain nameless.

The obvious pull of the series are the 3 way changes the main character is able to perform and of course that’s what kept me watching.  Also while researching on the series; I was intrigued by the main character’s story.  The whole “I have no desire thing” touched me on a personal level.   I kept watching because I want to see what the end moral is.  It is like the Japanese writers are preaching to the world through the show that we are all greedy and selfish.  If we hold on to this greed or desire too long, it eventually turns evil, just like a Yummy.  It also shows how even good intentions can go bad.  Look at me, trying to learn an important life lesson from a Japanese tokusatsu program.  But there are some good lines, although it may depend on the translators understanding.  I particularly memorable one is “protect what little happiness you have with your own hands.”

The story flowed well for me.  It was like after each episode, there was an important event that made me want to watch the next immediately.  Majority of these was getting a new medal which means a new combo.  But not always, there was Kazari making evolved Yummies, Akira Date’s storyline, Dr. Maki’s storyline and Lost Ankh.  There were also some really intense episodes such as when Ankh threw Eiji off a building, OOO using Tajador to fight Kazari, Date joining the Greeds and of course, the awesome Putotyranno combo debut.  It also has its share of humor.  Ankh and Date fighting over Cell Medals, Ankh mocking Gotou while working at Cous Coussier, every time Dr. Maki’s doll fell, once in a pot of edon and the eccentricity of President Kougami.  Although probably the most hilarious was the episode with the LOVE combo and Hina and Ankh had to force Eiji to turn into OOO, all the while Kazari was waiting to engage.

Now that I have seen the finale, I can say I very much enjoyed the whole ride.  I feel good knowing I have completely watched one whole tokusatsu series, the next will most likely be Gokaiger.  Will I watch Fourze?  Maybe in youtube, I downloaded the last three episodes of OOO because I really wanted to see it without lag.  The main character of Fourze looks like an old friend of mine to be honest.  I also have no complaints with the suit so far.

My only complaint with OOO is that secret of the Core Medals were only revealed in episode 45, which only leaves us with three episodes to wrap it all up.  I feel they could have extended it a bit more.  The last complaint is there is no explanation for Hina’s monstrous strength.

My favorite combo by the way is SaGoZho.  I love the physical approach of the finisher as well as the black and silver on the suit, as well as the red eyes.  Though Gamel is just ANNOYING to watch.  My least favorite is Shauta combo, I just don’t dig those wires or whip things.

My Top Yellow Female Senshi Suits

The female yellow warrior, the change of pace for female heroines in pink.  Granted they lose out to their pink warriors in terms of quantity, this list may seem too short so bear with me.  This will be chronologically arranged but not necessarily in order of my liking.
1. Yellow Mask – Just like Pink Mask, her helmet may seem unfriendly but her roll call and team pose make up for it.

2. Geki Yellow – Her suit is without a doubt my favorite.  It is eye candy.  It’s just so sultry in appearance and appeals to every sense of taste that makes a woman look good in my male human brain.   Just to make my point, take a look at these poses.

Man, I love these high quality pictures.  Just found them when I was writing this post.

Just look at this pic, how can it not be seen as, excuse the word, seductive.  I’m surprised Disney allowed this picture.

Honorable Mentions: Ok, WOW! I never realized I only really liked two female yellow senshi suits. Guess here are my honorable mentions, but you already knew that…

1. Mega Yellow – Same argument with Mega Pink, looks exactly like the others.

2. Abare Yellow – Maybe it is because I hated Dino Thunder but I am racking my brain and her suit is the next I can find appealing even a little.

3. Gokai Yellow – Nothing about her suit screams for me to like it as much as Gokai Pink but I like her enough for her to be here.

My Top Pink Senshi Suits

The pink female warrior, the chick in the so called 5 man band.  They are the ones that make watching sentai fight scenes a little more enjoyable, providing a break from all the manly grunts and sounds on the battlefield.  They fight differently, sound differently and most importantly, look very GOOD in their pink spandex while doing it.  This will be chronologically arranged but not necessarily in order of my liking.

1. Heart Queen – I just love her suit design.  It’s like an upgraded version of Momo Ranger with the heart for the helmet visor.  I also like her voice and her roll call pose.  When I compare her to Momo Ranger, it’s no contest.

2. Denzi Pink – Her helmet visor looks just like her Denziman brethren but there’s just something about the light pink and white stripes that decorate her suit which appeals to me.

3. Pink Mask – I love shade of pink her suit sports.  Her helmet may seem unfriendly but her roll call and team pose up for it.

4. Hou Ranger – I recently started Dairanger and I find this pink senshi’s suit to my taste.  Her voice only adds to her appeal. (There enough pics at super sentai images for me to post just one)

5. Gokai Pink – Gokai Pink goes back to the heart shaped visor and I adore it.  Her voice, fight scenes and suit design are very pleasing to the senses.  It’s like the suit is always smiling at you whenever Ahim morphs. (Again, enough images at super sentai images)

It is poses like these that make me adore her.

Honorable Mentions:
1. Pink Turbo – Her suit looks just like the other Turborangers but there’s something about her shade of pink that make me notice her.  I guess I need to see some episodes to get to like her better.
2. Ptera Ranger – I guess I should like this more since she’s the most familiar one but maybe it’s because she’s so familiar that she doesn’t quite make it.
3. Mega Pink – The main problem is the suit looks exactly like the other Megarangers with just a different color, no variation at all.
4. Magi Pink – Maybe it’s cause I liked Mystic Force that she’s here, still nice to look at though.

My thoughts on Kamen Rider × Kamen Rider OOO & W Featuring Skull: Movie War Core

Ok, I know I am not Igadevil or a fancy name in some tokusatsu form, but I just had to get this out.  First, let's establish my credebilities.  I am a NEW tokusatsu fan which only includes Super Sentai and Kamen Rider.  I only began "geeking out" to them late last year.  The only Kamen Rider I was familiar with was Saban's Masked Rider, and even with that, I have vague memories.  Of course, I got interested when I saw All Riders Vs Dai Shocker, so I started with Decade.  And even with Decade, I only downloaded select episodes.  With OOO and W, I do not have a single episode of their series.  That out of the way, let’s get on to my thoughts on Kamen Rider X Kamen Rider Movie War Core…

First, the Kamen Rider Skull part.  I have no background knowledge on who he is or how cool he may be in the series.  The only time I saw him was in W x Decade movie and he looked badass there, like a Michael Jackson Kamen Rider.  Here, with the origin story, I was less interested and less impressed.

On to the OOO part.  Never having seen OOO except in W A to Z Forever memories, I was excited.  It would be my first taste of OOO if you will.  What I saw disturbed me.  It seems OOO will always take his hits from the enemy first then change into a combo after minutes of rolling around on the ground.  Only then do I see something cool.  And that ballerina story, OMG, I never wish to watch that fight where the scene changes from fighting to dancing.  It was so distracting.  At this point, I felt that if I was at Japan at the time the movie came out and bought a ticket for it, I would be pissed.

Now on to the reason I downloaded this movie in the first place.  I liked it.  Obviously it would be the part which I would always watch whenever I open the movie.  The best part was W freaking out to the disembodied arm as well as W stating what being a Kamen Rider is all about.  OOO's reaction was priceless.  But the final battle, if there even was one, was too short.

So there!  There are probably better reviews by more knowledgeable fans but I just wanted to give what I feel would be the reactions of a casual tokusatsu viewer who only watches these shows for the love of seeing awesome action scenes.

I really found this poster so cool but now, after seeing the movie, meh.
